filemond - File Monitoring Daemon
Filemond is an application for monitoring file and/or directory attributes. It is licensed under the GNU GPL. Filemond can be used to monitor important files or directories on a system, and send an alert if any attributes are changed from predetermined values. Filemond also has the ability to correct the attributes for a given file or directory.
Filemond was designed as a security tool. It can be used to alert a system administrator of any changes to critical system files. It also comes in handy for a system administrator to be able to set special attributes for security reasons, and to know that the attributes will not be changed (eg. during the installation of software that may alter file/directory permissions).
